From Theodore Buchholz, Cello Professor-UA:

Last Saturday, the The University of Arizona School of Music was filled with the joyful sounds of gaggles and hoards of string players at the 2024 String Symposium, the Arizona American String Teachers Association Fall Workshop, and the semester start of the University of Arizona String Project!

Bravo to John Contreras for his amazing sessions for both the teachers and the high school young artists! Favorite adage of the day: “We Tune Because We Care.” 🙂 Flowing Wells High School and Catalina Foothills High: your orchestras are doing amazing work under the direction of Ryan Watson and Adam Jones! Thomas Cockrell and UA D.M.A. candidate Fatima Corona Del Toro led outstanding clinics for these young musicians.

Check out our recital featuring faculty members from UA, ASU, and NAU: , Tom Landschoot, Nancy Buck, Elena Chernova-Davis, Philip Alejo, Steven and Esteban Hernández Parra – Violista! https://youtube.com/live/pmqC8sG1COE?feature=share

Thank you to Steven Moeckel for coordinating ASTA Arizona. Anna Galura Summers’s sessions were nothing short of inspirational and Gabby Cioca and Terry Loncaric Alexander led an outstanding session on the first five years of teaching. Thank you to all the teachers for bringing your energy and commitment to the event!

Thank you to Southwest Strings and String Riffs for being amazing corporate partners.

And thank you to the Reid Ferris and SOM tech team for keeping everything running beautifully!
